Force Coaches and Force Alum Shine in Doubleheader!!

ST. PAUL, Minn. - A combined twenty-two runs were scored by the St. Catherine University Wildcat softball team on Wednesday in the sweep of conference foe Macalester College. The Wildcats allowed just one run on the day winning game one 10-1 and game two 12-0. St. Kate's improves their record to 26-10 overall and 16-4 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). With just two games remaining in the regular season, St. Kate's is sitting in second place in the MIAC standings, just one game out of first place. 

Game 1 | St. Catherine 10, Macalester 1 (6 innings)
Rookie Olivia Beaulieu brought in the first two runs of the day in the top of the second inning with a single to left field driving in seniors Jenna George and Trish Sherman. 

Macalester scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the second inning off a double to left field and score of 2-1. 

St. Kate's scored three more runs in the top of the fourth to take the 4-1 lead. A big sixth inning brought in the final five runs score of 10-1. 

First-year Alex Ehde was 2-4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI in the first game. George was also 2-4 with one double and scoring one. Junior Amber Montero had two RBI in the first game tallying one run in one hit. 

In the circle for in the first game was rookie Annabelle Schutte collecting her 13th win of the season. Schutte tallied 6 strikeouts in 6 innings allowing  1 run off of 6 hits. 

Game 2 | St. Catherine 12, Macalester 0
St. Kate's extended the runs streak in game two crossing the plate a total of 12 times. 

George scored the first run for St. Kate's in the top of the second as the Scots walked junior Autumn Mortenson with bases loaded. 

In the top of the third inning, Montero hit a solo home run, her third of the season and second in the last week for the 2-0 lead. 

The fourth inning proved to be successful again in the second game as the Wildcats scored 4 runs off of 4 hits. Senior Trish Sherman was the leadoff in the inning scoring first off of Beaulieu's single to center field. Senior Anna Hinderakerwas responsible for the next two RBI with a hit to left field to drive in Beaulieu and Mortenson's pinch runner, first-year Jasmine Ziegler. The Wildcats 6th run was a result of a Scots error and Hinderaker crossing the plate as Montero tallied the RBI. 

The sixth inning was just as successful for St. Kate's collecting a total of six runs on 3 hits. Montero posted two more RBI in the inning as Hinderaker and pinch hitter Alyssa Wicks scored. Mortenson collected the final RBI of the game with a single to left field as Schutte scored her first career run as a pinch-runner for George. 

Montero was 2-4 in game two with 4 RBI, 2 runs, plus the home run. Mortenson was 2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 walk. 

Sophomore Kathryn Proper pitched the completed game for the Wildcats collecting her 13th win of the season in the circle. Proper and Schutte are tied for 5th in the MIAC for wins this season. Proper allowed just 3 hits in 6 innings with 4 strikeouts and walking 1 player.
